Overview of the scenic area
Kadan Songzanlin Temple is located at the foot of Foping Mountain in the northern part of Shangri La County. It is the largest Tibetan Buddhist temple in Yunnan and one of the famous "Thirteen Forests" in the Kang District. In 1674, after obtaining approval from Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, the Fifth Dalai Lama personally selected a site for construction and named the temple "Gadan Songtsenlin Temple". In the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, the designated number of monks was 226. When the People's Republic of China was established, the number of monks exceeded the quota, reaching 1329, and there were 9 living Buddhas, reaching a maximum of over 2000. His followers have a diverse ethnic composition, and there have been many famous Tibetan monks in history, so his reputation is not as prominent as many temples. I hope you can come and understand the connotations of Shangri La's ethnic and religious culture, leave a prayer, form a good relationship, and take away the blessings of the Bodhisattva.
